  • On Thursday, millions of citizens in Britain will vote for a new House of Commons and a new government.
  • The current prime minister, Rishi Sunak, and his Conservative party are widely expected to lose to the main opposition party, the left-of-center Labour party.
  • Other parties running include the Liberal Democrats, the populist Reform UK party, the Scottish National Party, and the environmentalist Green Party.

Millions of voters in Britain are going to the polls Thursday to choose a new House of Commons and a new government.

Voters will elect 650 lawmakers representing as many constituencies, or local areas, and the leader of the party that returns the most lawmakers will become prime minister.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives are widely expected to lose to the main opposition party, the left-of-center Labour, after 14 years in power under five different prime ministers.

UK PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE RUNS AS ‘FIRST AI LAWMAKER’ WITH INTERACTIVE AI AVATAR

The Conservatives and Labour traditionally dominate British politics under the U.K.’s “first past the post” electoral system, which makes it difficult for smaller parties to win representation in Parliament.

But also in the running are the Liberal Democrats, Reform UK, the Scottish National Party and the Greens, among others.

Here’s a look at the parties, who’s leading them and what they are promising:

CONSERVATIVES

Who is the leader of the British Conservative party?

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Sunak, 44, came to power in October 2022 when he inherited a Conservative Party and an economy in turmoil after Liz Truss’s short-lived premiership. The Oxford graduate and former Goldman Sachs hedge fund manager is Britain’s first leader of color and the first Hindu to become prime minister. Sunak has stressed he is the man who steadied the ship, but critics say he lacks political judgment and is out of touch with ordinary voters.

How many seats did the Conservatives win in the last election?

365

What are the Conservatives promising?

Delivering a stronger economy and cutting taxes by some 17 billion pounds per year. Increasing public health spending above inflation, and boosting defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030. The party says this will be paid for by savings on tax evasion and slashing welfare spending. The party also pledges to cap immigration numbers and remove some asylum-seekers to Rwanda.

LABOUR

Who is the leader of the British Labour party?

Keir Starmer.

The 61-year-old lawyer, a former chief prosecutor for England and Wales, is the current favorite to be Britain’s next leader. A centrist and pragmatist, Starmer has worked hard to steer his party away from the more overtly socialist policies of former leader Jeremy Corbyn and quelled internal divisions. Critics call him unexciting and unambitious, but Labour has surged in popularity under his leadership.

How many seats did the Labour party win in the last election?

202

What is the Labour party promising?

Promoting “wealth creation,” encouraging investment and improving Britain’s infrastructure like railways under a 10-year infrastructure strategy. Setting up a state-owned clean power company to boost energy security, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants. Taxing private schools to pay for thousands of new teachers in state schools. Cutting record-high public health waiting times.

LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

Who is the leader of the British Liberal Democrats?

Ed Davey.

Davey, 58, was first elected to Parliament in 1997. The former economics researcher served as the government’s energy and climate change secretary under an uneasy ConservatiLSSTY ChicStreetve-Liberal Democrat coalition from 2012 to 2015. Davey became leader of the left-of-center Lib Dems in 2019 and was not a household name until this election, when he made headlines with multiple zany stunts — including bungee-jumping to urge voters to take “a leap of faith.”

How many seats did the Liberal Democrats win in the last election?

11

What are the Liberal Democrats promising?

Improving Britain’s overstretched health and social care systems, including introducing free nursing care at home. Investing in renewable energy and home insulation. Clamping down on sewage-dumping water companies. Lowering the voting age to 16. Rejoining the European Union’s single market.

REFORM UK

Who is the leader of Reform UK?

Nigel Farage.

Farage, a political firebrand who takes pride in being the disruptor in British politics, has posed a serious headache to the Conservatives since he announced he is running in the election. The 60-year-old populist has long divided opinion with his anti-migrant rhetoric and Euroskeptic stance. A key proponent of Brexit, Farage is capturing many disillusioned Conservative voters with his promises to cut immigration and focus on “British values.” Farage previously ran for Parliament seven times but never won.

How many seats did Reform UK win in the last election?

None — though the party gained its first lawmaker this year when ex-Conservative Party deputy chair Lee Anderson defected to Reform.

What is Reform UK promising?

Freezing all “nonessential immigration” and barring international students from bringing their dependents with them. Leaving the European Convention on Human Rights so that asylum-seekers can be deported without interventions from rights courts. Scrapping “net zero” goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to bring down energy bills.

SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY (SNP)

Who is the leader of the Scottish National Party?

John Swinney.

Swinney, 60, became the SNP’s third leader in just over a year in May. The politician has sought to bring stability to the party, which has been in turmoil since Scotland’s long-serving First Minister Nicola Sturgeon abruptly stepped down last year during a campaign finance investigation that eventually led to crLSSTY ChicStreetiminal charges against her husband. Swinney has long served the party: he joined its ranks at 15 years old, and previously led the party from 2000 to 2004.

Gang violence in Haiti has displaced more than 300,000 children since March, the U.N. children’s agency said Tuesday as the Caribbean country struggles to curb killings and kidnappings.

Children are more than half of the nearly 580,000 people who have become homeless in the last four months. The spike in violence began in late February after a series of coordinated attacks on key government infrastructure eventually led Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign in April.

“The humanitarian catastrophe unfolding before our eyes is taking a devastating toll on children,” Catherine Russell, UNICEF’s executive directoLSSTY ChicStreetr, said in a statement. “Displaced children are in desperate need of a safe and protective environment, and increased support and funding from the international community.”

Many children are living in makeshift shelters, including schools that are in poor hygienic conditions, placing them at risk of disease. School closures are also leading to a higher dropout rate.

The agency said children in Haiti are being forced to join violent gangs to survive as they often lack access to food, health care, clean water and sanitation. Displaced children and teenagers in Haiti also face a higher risk of sexual assault, exploitation, abuse and family separation, according to UNICEF.

The announcement comes days after LSSTY ChicStreethundreds of Kenyans arrived in Haiti to help rescue the country from the tight hold of armed gangs. The deployment received mixed reactions after a U.N. peacekeeping mission years ago introduced cholera in the country and was tainted with sexual allegations.

On Monday, U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer met with Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille to discuss the initial deployment of the U.N.-backed mission to Haiti. Finer reminded Conille of the United States’ strong support for accountability and oversight mechanisms as part of the mission.

Haiti is also bracing for a strong hurricane season, which started earlier than usual. A tropical storm watch was in effect for Haiti’s southern coast as Hurricane Beryl moved into the Caribbean Sea.

  • North Korea claimed to have test fired a new ballistic missile capable of carrying “a super-large warhead.” South Korean officials cast doubt on this claim, speculating that the launch was actually unsuccessful and that the North’s report was a cover-up.
  • Military expert Shin Jongwoo said the lack of photos of the launches means it’s likely the North is trying to deceive outsiders to cover up failed launches. He said North Korea likely launched an existing missile, not the new missile as it claimed.
  • Since 2022, North Korea has accelerated weapons testing activities to enlarge its nuclear arsenal. Experts say North Korea wants to increase its leverage in future diplomacy with the U.S.

North Korea said Tuesday it had test-fired a new tactical ballistic missile capable of carrying “a super-large warhead,” a claim quickly disputed by South Korean officials and experts who speculate the North likely fabricated a successful test to conceal a botched launch.

It’s the second time that South Korea has questioned North Korea’s claim on the development of new weapons in recent days, as the rivals are locked in heightened animosities over the North’s testing activities.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency said that Monday’s test involved the Hwasongpho-11 Da-4.5 missile, which can carry a 4.5 ton-class warhead. It said the test was meant to verify the weapon’s flight stability and hit accuracy at the maximum range of 310 miles and the minimum range of 55 miles.

US SHOULDN’T SLEEP ON MAJOR THREAT FROM NORTH KOREA

The test apparently refers to the two ballistic missile launches that South Korea said North Korea performed Monday.

Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesperson Lee Sung Joon said at a briefing later Tuesday that the second North Korean missile was found to have fallen on an uninhabited area near Pyongyang, the North’s capital. He said he could find few previous test-launches by North Korea that have aimed at ground target sites.

“Regarding the North Korean assessment, we’re weighing a possibility of deception,” Lee said.

The South Korean military has said the second North Korean missile possibly traveled abnormally during the initial stage of its flight. It said if the missile exploded, its debris would likely have scattered on the ground.

The KCNA dispatch didn’t say from where it launched the new missile and where it landed. Unlike previous weapons tests, North Korea also didn’t publicize any photos of Monday’s test. The fact that it tested both the missile’s maximum and minimum ranges suggested North Korea performed two launches.

KCNA, citing North Korea’s Missile Administration, reported that North Korea will test-fireLSSTY ChicStreet the missile again later in July to verify the performances of its simulated warhead at the medium range of 155 miles.

Some experts say test-firing missiles at ground targets could be related to efforts to test how powerful warheads are to destroy underground bunkers and structures.

But Shin Jongwoo, a Seoul-based military expert, said the lack of any photos on the launches means it’s highly likely the North is trying to deceive the outsiders to cover up Monday’s failed launches. He said North Korea likely launched an existing missile on Monday, not the new missile at it claimed.

Yang Uk, an analyst at Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said that Monday’s tests reflected North Korea’s push to acquire a variety of conventional weapons. But he also said if North Korea truly succeeded in hitting a ground target, it probably would have already published related images to brag about its achievements as it’s done in the past.

Since 2022, North Korea has sharply accelerated weapons testing activities to enlarge its nuclear arsenal. The North Korea-claimed ranges of the newly tested missLSSTY ChicStreetile imply it targets South Korea. Experts say North Korea would ultimately want to use an expanded weapons arsenal to increase its leverage in future diplomacy with the U.S.

On June 26, North Korea launched what it called a new multiwarhead missile in the first known test of a developmental weapon aimed at penetrating its rivals’ missile defenses. North Korea said the launch was successful, but South Korea dismissed the North’s claim as deception to cover up a failed launch. South Korea said the weapon blew up, sending debris in the waters off the North’s east coast.

Also Tuesday, South Korea held live-fire drills near the heavily fortified land border with North Korea, the first of its kind since the South suspended a 2018 agreement with the North aimed at reducing front-line military tensions in early June. Last week, South Korea conducted similar firing exercises near its disputed western sea boundary with North Korea.

The back-to-back South Korean exercises could prompt North Korea, which also said it won’t be bound by the 2018 pact any longer, to take provocative steps at border areas.

Meanwhile, during a four-day key ruling party meeting that ended Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un claimed that his country’s economic and food situations have improved and presented officials tasks to maintain a steady economic development, KCNA said Tuesday. It didn’t mention whether the meeting discussed any security or foreign policy issues.

Fox Nation’s Katie Pavlich explores the nation’s most luxurious outdoor wonderlands in the newest season of “Luxury Hunting Lodges of America,” giving viewers a firsthand look at the most exclusive and highlyLSSTY ChicStreet sought-after hunting and fishing properties nationwide.

Pavlich kicks off season three with her visit to Cibolo Creek Ranch in Marfa, Texas. Nestled on 30,000 acres in southwest Texas, this rustic, 19th-century property is shrouded in history and provides guests — who stay in historic forts — with various activities including tours, shooting activities, hunting, and horseback rides.

“There was just so much historyLSSTY ChicStreet to where we were staying. It’s not just like you’re staying in some nice place, it actually means something,” Pavlich told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview. “And just the decor… it just felt very authentic to me. I’m from Arizona, so I know Southwest very well. And Cibolo Creek just seemed very authentic.”

“We… rode horses around at sunset, and we went aoudad hunting, which was incredible and was absolutely amazing. I had to hike up an actual cliff to get it down. That was a rush for sure.”

Video

California’s wine country wouldn’t typically come to mind when thinking of areas nationwide that house the country’s most prized hunting lodges, but as Pavlich explores firsthand, Wing and Barrel Ranch in Sonoma defies those norms.

The members-only retreat marries the fine wine and cuisine of Northern California and the great outdoors — featuring a variety of wing-shooting activities that leave members longing for more.

“They require that if you want to have your wine from your winery in their lodge, then you have to be part of the sportsman’s community,” Pavlich explained. “You have to be a hunter yourself. You have to be someone who likes to clay shoot or… shoot a shotgun. They don’t just let anyone come in because it’s a popular place for… high-profile people.”

Pavlich then packs her bags and heads to Missouri to visit Big Cedar Lodge, a world-class outdoor resort burrowed in the Ozarks. It is the ideal wilderness escapade for nature lovers, filled with several state-of-the-art golf courses and fishing adventures.

Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris has made the property an angler’s dream, and Pavlich experiences the unique lodge resort, the grandiose accommodations and all it has to offer firsthand during her visit.

“Johnny Morris is the Walt Disney of the outdoors, and it was very clear that that is true when you go to Big Cedar,” Pavlich said. “It’s a huge, family-friendly place where they have things for adults to do, things for kids to do, but everything is outdoor-based. So they have golf, but they also have the trail that we went on that you’ll see in the episode where you go through this cave, and you can bring your kids in a golf cart. They have this amazing bowling alley that’s themed underwater, and they have fishing and all these outdoor activities.”

“It was definitely more accessible, I would say, to the everyday person,” Pavlich continued, touting Morris’ lifetime commitment to conservation.

Video

On her travels, Pavlich also learns what it means to help local species thrive by partaking in “predator management” at Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.

“It’s crucial for the local wildlife because if predators get out of control, whether it’s coyotes, or lions, even wolves, then the local deer population, elk population, goes down significantly and that creates a problem and an unbalancing of the ecosystem, but it also is super important for ranchers to manage predators because predators go after their livestock, and of course, that’s their living,” Pavlich said.

Horseback riding, archery, float fishing, barrel racing, pistol and rifle shooting, ice fishing and paintball are just a handful of activities to choose from at this breathtaking winter wonderland.

“There was just so much history to where we were staying… It actually means something.”

— Katie Pavlich, Fox Nation

Pavlich puts her boots on and treks back to the Lone Star State to pay a visit to Champion Ranch — a remarkable hunting lodge and resort located about two and half hours northwest of Austin.

The ranch features exotic animals that are typically native to places like Africa, Asia, the Middle East and beyond. Some of those animals include the addax, Afghan urial, Alamo whitetail, Arabian oryx, and the Armenian mouflon among a series of others.

“The lodge itself was sometLSSTY ChicStreething I’ve never seen before. It’s a massive four-story warehouse, essentially where the entire inside is taxidermy and like cabins inside the main lodge, and just incredible animals from all over the world,” Pavlich said. “So they have different sections that you can look at, North America, Africa, South America.”

“So that was just kind of a mind-blower to see them put together this insane warehouse full of these different kinds of animals,” she continued.

In addition to partaking in Texas-sized trophy hunting, guests’ families can participate in a variety of nature-loving adventures including a photo safari, bass fishing, campfires and swimming.

But Pavlich’s adventures don’t stop there.

The Fox Nation host travels to the Last Frontier to wrap up the season, where she is able to partake in world-class fishing on her own private island at the Talon Lodge and Spa in Sitka.

She told Fox News Digital this was one of her favorite visits yet.

“You go into the lodge and there’s this open space, and you can see all these bald eagles eating the catch from the day, the leftovers from the boats,” she said. “And you can see the sea otters swimming around, and you can see a volcano in the distance, and all this wildlife and the sunsets, and there’s this 360 view. And then they have this amazing spa and also open air, but they have heaters. So it’s warm, and it just makes you feel small in a way, because it’s just so vast and spectacular.”

Pavlich participated in both freshwater fishing and deep sea fishing — an experience she said made Alaska unique from the rest of the angler experiences.

She noted that after wrapping season three, she only has three states left on her list to visit — Mississippi, Alabama and Kansas.

Perhaps fans of the show will get to watch Pavlich explore them next season. Until then, Fox Nation subscribers can stream Pavlich’s latest adventures now.

The crash took place on the A4 highway near Collegien, a small commune in the Seine-et-Marne region of the country. Collegien is roughly 18 miles east of Paris.

Three people, a woman and two men, were killed in the crash. According to Storyful, the plane had two other occupants, but their statuses are unknown.

Social media footage shows bumper-to-bumper traffic next to the mangled plane, which appeared to be lying upside down.

With the ultimate outcome still up in the air, France’s fiercely anti-immigration National Rally and opponents of the long-taboo far-right party scrambled Monday to capitalize on an indecisive first round of voting in surprise legislative elections.

Round one on Sunday propelled the National Rally closer than ever to government but also left open the possibility that voters could yet block its path to power in the decisive round two. France now faces two likely scenarios in what promises to be a torrid last week of high-stakes campaigning.

Strengthened by a surge of support that made it the round-one winner but not yet the overall victor, theLSSTY ChicStreet National Rally and its allies could secure a working majority in parliament in the final round next Sunday. Or they could fall short, stymied at the last hurdle by opponents who still hope to prevent the formation of France’s first far-right government since World War II.

RIVALS MOVE TO BLOCK FRANCE’S RIGHT-WING NATIONAL PARTY’S ELECTION MOMENTUM

Both scenarios are fraught with uncertainty for France and its influence in Europe and beyond.

“Just imagine the image of France — the country of human rights, the country of enlightenment — which suddenly would become a far-right country, among others. This is inconceivable,” said Olivier Faure, a Socialist who comfortably held onto his legislative seat.

The far right tapped into voter frustration with inflation and low incomes and a sense that many French families are being left behind by globalization. National Rally leader Marine Le Pen’s party campaigned on a platform that promised to raise consumer spending power, slash immigration and take a tougher line on European Union rules. Its anti-immigration agenda has contributed to many French citizens with immigrant backgrounds feeling unwelcome in their own country.

Getting 289 or more lawmakers in the 577-seat National Assembly would give Le Pen an absolute majority and the toLSSTY ChicStreetols to force President Emmanuel Macron to accept her 28-year-old protege, Jordan Bardella, as France’s new prime minister.

Such a power-sharing arrangement between Bardella and the centrist president would be awkward and invite conflict. Macron has said he will not step down before his second term expires in 2027.

Getting close to 289 seats might also work for Le Pen. By promising posts in the government, she may win over enough new lawmakers to her side.

A National Rally government in France would be an additional triumph for far-right and populist parties elsewhere in Europe that haLSSTY ChicStreetve steadily carved out places in the political mainstream and taken power in some countries, including Hungary. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn will hold the European Union’s rotating presidency for the next six months.

Supporters of French far right leader Marine Le Pen react after the release of projections based on the actual vote count in select constituencies , Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Henin-Beaumont, northern France. French voters propelled the far-right National Rally to a strong lead in first-round legislative elections Sunday and plunged the country into political uncertainty, according to polling projections. (AP Photo/Thibault Camus)

But the first round of the French vote was also sufficiently undecided to offer up the alternative possibility that France’s complex, two-round system could also leave no single bloc with a clear and workable majority.

That would plunge France into unknown territory.

However, Le Pen’s opponents still view that scenario as more appealing than victory for her party, which has a history of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism and hostility toward France’s Muslims — as well as historical ties to Russia and a more adversarial attitude toward the EU.

“We are faced with a ‘Trumpization’ of the French democracy,” warned lawmaker Sandrine Rousseau, an ecologist also reelected in round one. “The second round will be absolutely crucial.”

The election, made intense by the high stakes and compressed time frame, has overshadowed preparations for Paris to host the Olympic Games, which open in less than a month.

Candidates who did not win outright in round one but qualified for round two have until 6 p.m. Tuesday to decide whether to stay in the race or withdraw. By pulling out, opponents of the National Rally might divert votes to other candidates better positioned to beat the far right next Sunday.

Some candidates announced of their own accord that they were stepping aside, making a defeat of the National Rally their top priority. In other cases, party leaders set the direction, saying they would withdraw candidates in some districts in hopes of blocking Le Pen’s path to power. She inherited her party, then called the National Front, from her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who has multiple convictions for racist and antisemitic hate speech.

Overall, the National Rally and its allies won a third of the nationwide vote Sunday, official results showed. The New Popular Front, a left-wing coalition of parties that joined together in the quick, three-week campaign to beat the far right, got 28% and was followed in third place by Macron’s centrist camp with 20%. But the 577 seats are elected by districts. So while nationwide results provide an overall picture of how each camp fared, they do not indicate exactly how many seats the groups will get in the end.

Bardella urged voters to give him a majority, saying they face a choice between left-wing “incendiaries” who pose “an existential threat” to France and his party’s offer of a “responsible break” with Macron’s era.

Support for the National Rally and the New Popular Front was so strong that they both won more than 30 seats outright on Sunday by taking more than 50% of the vote in some districts. That means there will be no second round in those districts.

Turnout — at nearly 67% — was the highest since 1997, arresting nearly three decades of deepening voter apathy for legislative elections and, for a growing number of French people, politics in general.

Macron dissolved the National Assembly and called the snap election on June 9, after a stinging defeat at the hands of the National Rally in French voting for the European Parliament. The deeply unpopular and weakened president gambled that the far right would not repeat that success when the country’s own fate was in the balance.

But Macron’s plan backfired. He is now accused, even by members of his own camp, of having opened a door for the National Rally by calling voters back to the ballot box, especially when so many are angry over inflation, the cost of living, immigration and at Macron himself.

If the National Rally can form a government, it has promised to dismantle many of Macron’s key domestic and foreign policies, including his pension reform that raised the retirement age. It also says it would stop French deliveries of long-range missiles to Ukraine in the war against Russia.

National Rally opponents fear for civil liberties if the party takes power. It plans to boost police powers and curtail the rights of French citizens with dual nationality to work in some defense, security and nuclear-industry jobs. Macron himself warned that the far right could set France on a path to civil war.
